Ladybug Invasion!

It's that time again.  This year, the invasion hasn't been fast and furious.  We've had 3 days where the ladybugs have been heavy but not overwhelmingly so.  Today is probably the least going on but I figure I had better get the pictures taken now because, sooner or later, the days won't be warm enough for this to go on.

Yes, a few manbugs are also around

They are all the same kind of ladybug
even though they are different colors,
have different number of spots and
are each individual looking.

My Obsession - It's Tadpole time!!!

They are EVERYWHERE!!!  They hang out in
big swarms or travel to and from all together like above.
I don't know really why they move around from
place to place in the little pond.

OK, this is the beekeeper's area and has nothing to do
with tadpoles except that it is in the same area.

This is just a little swarm

Two small swarms

Some are braver than others and venture away

Most stay together.

Indoor Spring

Our high yesterday was 48.  if you stretch it, we could say 49.

But indoors, I have beautiful imagery.

Thinking of Sue & Steve in Atlanta!  And waiting
to be able to do MY spring frolic!

Pre-invasion of "The Ladybugs"

It's that time of the year again!  "Asian Lady Beetles like to hibernate each winter inside a nice warm house. That’s why most ladybug infestations occur during the fall months. As it turns out, the ladybugs are attracted to light colors, including the color white.  They are also attracted to warm, south-facing rooms."   And wouldn't you guess...they just love our building and love my apartment!  Every day now, I've been waiting for the "great invasion" which comes one time a year, usually the first week in October.  Today was a pre-invasion.  Enjoy the pictures!!

Reinhard said this is a "manbug"

The colour range of the Harmonia axyridis  (a large coccinellid beetle) is from yellow-orange to black, and the number of spots between none and 22. It is native to eastern Asia, but has been artificially introduced to North Americaand Europe to control aphids and scale insects. It is now common, well known, and spreading in those regions, and has also established in South Africa and widely across South America.
It is commonly known as the harlequin ladybird (because it occurs in numerous colour forms). It is also known in North America as the multicolored Asian lady beetle, and (because it invades homes in October in preparation for overwintering) as Halloween lady beetle.  You can read more about it, if you want, here.
