It's a snowy day here in Munich. That's okay though. I like snow and I'm happy that we are finally getting some. Northern Germany has been hit by a winter storm and there's flooding scattered throughout Europe. But here in Munich, it's pretty and snowing. Okay, the truth is told by my Austrian hubby. Austrians are used to having at least a yard of snow in the winter so what we have here is "mouse knee-deep". I personally think then that the mice are in a state of emergency because we have at least 4 inches!
I got all the blocks stitched and couched on Together Sometimes. It's now time for the "good stuff"...beading and stoning. Is stoning a word? Well, it is now! I just happen to have a dentist appointment tomorrow morning and right there is a little bead store. It's not open very often but maybe I'll get lucky. I don't think a girl can have enough beads or thread, do you?
These rocks look a little more red than they are in real life. They are more of a burnt orange.
This is one of my favorite...it's neat and orderly. The beads are flat black and the rocks are fairly matt as well. It's one of the "stronger" blocks.
This one is pretty cool and yes, the stone is snow flake obsidian...a great rock for these black blocks.
I like this one alot because of the white beads. Unfortunately, there isn't alot of rock action in it. But it looks good anyway.
And here it is in its entirety. I'm hoping that my sister Susan gets the chance to mail me some YLI silk varigated threads. I'm planning to stitch one over one between the blocks with it. Of course there would be beads too and maybe stones as well. I'm not sure yet. Of course, this piece is pretty slow to work on because the beading and stoning are completed by block. The thread that I'm working gets hung up on the rocks quite often. This isn't the way to stitch but I had to do it this way to know what came next! It's such a fun piece! Hope what you are working on is fun, too!

Your work is truly amazing and inspiring - I love it.
Do all of the rocks have holes in to sew them on or do you attach them by some other method - also, is it aida that you have worked this on. I could sit and look at this for hours - it's stunning.
Thank you for sharing.
Shelly
Thanks for popping over and all of the info. Gosh the holes must be tiny on some of the rocks if you can't get a needle through - I've got some beading needles and they are so skinny I would have thought they would pass through anything but you probably already use these! I've never seen the minerals with holes in like this in the UK but even if I had it would not have entered my mind to do what you do with them :0) - I'll be keeping my eyes open in the future though. Thanks again Wanda xx Shell
Your blackwork and stones sqyares are gorgeous! I've just been browsing back through you blog to have a good look at them all. I love the way you're using the little 'rocks' rather than just beads - fantastic! I might need to have a go at something similar!
I love your beautiful piece Wanda- its fun and bold and very unique.
It is so interesting to see all the wonderful blocks together.
Thanks for sharing.
Warmest regards,
Anna
What an absolutely stunning piece Wanda.
Is the fabric getting heavy with the beads and stones on it? Will it be able to keep it's shape?
Wow! I love that I can enlarge this and look at each section and then pan out to see where each one is in relation to the others. Good work, Wanda. Is there some way you could cover the squares with something to keep from catching one the stones while you work? Ask Susan. She may have an idea.
Hi Wanda! I just spent a lot of time with your piece. I think it's cute that you like the order of the black square...tee hee...I like the ones that you might think are disorderly -- but I really like the contrast and the fact that they are all different -- that you weren't always orderly or always using pearls -- though the pearl squares with the stones are some of my favorites...but I like the black/white one you mention in this post the most...even beats out the aquamarine -- which is saying ALOT!! Love the idea of stitching over one for the inside...what is this piece saying to you?? What is its story? You need to include that too. xo Susan
Wow, that's amazing! I've never seen your 'rocking' work before! I love the second one. You are inspiring!
This is such an awesome piece. I'm going to show my daughter. She is a rock hound and I think she will really like it.
stunning blackwork! I've always had a soft spot for this technique
You've done an amazing job with this piece the stones are really unique!
