Hardanger - Doily XVI

Doily or Coaster??? You decide!!

Believe it or not, I actually found a fabric I like....
Jobelin.  It is really nice for Hardanger.

No matter what I do, I can't get this picture turned around so
you have to look at it side-ways.  ha ha  I think maybe
Dad will use this as a coaster when he comes.  I have
one wine glass...it seems perfect!!!!

Hardanger - Springtime at the Frog Pond

This is my latest creation.  I really like it.  I like the name and I like how it fits the piece.  I like the colors.  What I didn't like is the material or fabric.  Again.  First of all, it is "only" 28 count.  It makes the stitching really big.  That in itself is annoying.  But what is REALLY annoying is the back.  It looks a mess but only because there is so much space between the blocks.  I don't know if it is all Evenweave but this particular fabric was really stiff, almost like a canvas.  The cutting was difficult and didn't turn out the way I like.  It's a happy piece though and has lots of different things to look at.

Hardanger - Doily XV

Even though this is on that very "slanted" material, I really like it.
Don't forget to click to enlarge!
I like the colors and the design which is my own

The edging is really pretty and very stable.

The colors all go really well together.

A ruler so you can tell the size.  It is actually a little
bigger than a doily but smaller than a table piece.

I proudly show you the back here!!!

Let It Snow!

I'm a strange one....I love shoveling snow.  But my
back doesn't like it.  So my beloved balcony is
just right for me!

Maybe they are in the sun somewhere.  These cars haven't moved for days

This is before the first snow plow drove down this road.  It managed to
make a total mess and expose the solid sheet of ice.

I love snow!  We went for a walk and I thought of days gone by.....
Steve, you know what days I'm talking about!  Susan....you'd HATE it
here this week!

Two Seasons - Golden Autumn and Spring has Sprung

Two Seasons - Golden Autumn

Two Seasons - Spring has Sprung
The pieces in the series "Two Seasons" are now stitched.  I like the way they turned out.  I don't think you can see in the photos the metallic threads but both pieces have  shine to them.

Two Seasons

Two Seasons

I kicked around the idea of sewing them together, back to back, but that was not my original conception. They need to be side by side so you can compare them. I'm not quite sure what I am going to do with them. I may finish them off with a hardanger edge so that they can be cut out. The only problem with that is then the backs are readily visible and, let's face it, blackwork backs aren't like hardanger backs! I may just sit on them for a while until I decide. They definitely need to be washed though....the pencil outlines are still way too visible. I don't think there will be a problem with that though as the thread is all DMC. I don't think metallic thread fades.  Susan....am I write about that??

Wanda's World...or mind...today

The never-ending gray, dark and fog make it almost impossible to find the energy to do much. Memories just seem to dance through my mind today. I am posting a few random pictures...just because! Here's to hoping the sun breaks through the fog tomorrow!!! Have a great day!
Series: Two Seasons
Piece: Golden Autumn
This year's turkey was outstanding
One of two of my woodpecker neighbors
Abby loved Thanksgiving, too!  We had many, many together!

Hardanger - Reinhard's Choice, Wanda's Colors New Piece

I finished the 2nd piece in this series.  My plan was to make 9 of them and sew them together to make a really neat table piece.
It turned out pretty nice and I love the colors.  There is just one thing wrong......

As you can see, even though the two pieces are stitched exactly the same, they aren't the same.
This was a study in the differences in fabric.  I never really thought about the "Delve and Woof" or whatever it is called (Susan....what is it called??) but I just know that is what is causing the different shapes and sizes.

I used my best Belfast Linen on the blue one and just a plain old "Linen" made in China on the red one.

I am on "Hardanger pause" now. My next piece(s) will be back to the roots, so to speak.
No Susan....NOT that far back!! It's not needlepoint..ha ha. I was struck with a Blackwork idea and am busy designing.

Hardanger - "Reinhard's Choice, Wanda's Colors" - completed

I didn't know it at the time but this project is now filed under "doily".  It is 9x9 inches.  It took 12 days to complete but I would say at least one of those days was spent trying to decide if I really wanted a "lacy buttonhole edge" (in German, Spitzenrand).
I decided I did NOT want the Spitzenrand.  It seemed too fragile and it curled and just doesn't seem to lay correctly.  It's true, it would be something beautiful but if I am actually going to use the piece, it just didn't seem right.
The pictures here were taken before I ironed the piece.  Most of the time, that is true.  I am just so anxious to share the photos with you!  Yes, Susan, I cut out all those little holes on the edge separately!  I know I know....I'm crazy!!!

So now I have this lovely little doily thing and the big question is...what the heck do I do with it?  I think I may make 9 of them and somehow sew them or attach them together so that it can be used as a table piece.  I had a lot of fun making this piece (the pattern was out of a magazine) and so I will start making a 2nd one as well.  The 2nd one will be completely different colors though.  I thought of Mom a lot while making this....I know she loves Bargello!

The Table Piece - Hardanger - completed

So, The Table Piece is finished.  What do you think?  I'm not completely wild about it, I have to admit but I had some color issues.
It does look nice on the table, I have to admit.
I didn't post a picture of the back but, believe me, the back looks pretty much like the front!
Of course I've started the next project......
